What is included, and what costs extra?
Included: cutting out damage, patching, taping, mudding, sanding and priming. Extra: matching heavy texture, painting the whole wall to hide the patch, and return visits when deep fills need overnight drying.
Which size hole needs which fix?
- Nail holes and dents: filled with compound.
- Up to a few inches (doorknob holes): a mesh or backed patch.
- Larger holes: cut back to the studs and a new piece of drywall screwed in.
Should I patch or replace the drywall?
Patch when the damage is local and the board is dry. Replace a section when it is soft, stained from a leak, sagging, or crumbling. Fix the leak first, or the new board will fail the same way.
Can you match my wall texture?
Smooth walls are easiest. Orange peel and knockdown can be blended closely; heavy or hand-troweled textures take more time and may never be invisible under raking light.
How long does drywall repair take?
A small patch can be finished in one visit. Larger repairs need two or more coats with drying in between, so they may take a second trip.
Do I need a permit for drywall repair?
Patching is usually treated as ordinary repair. Replacing large areas of wall can be different, so check with your local permit office.
