What is included, and what costs extra?

Clearing one fixture’s drain with a cable is the base job. Pulling a toilet, working through a roof vent, camera inspection and jetting add cost.

How do I know it is more than a simple clog?

When several drains back up at once, especially a basement floor drain or a tub that fills when the toilet flushes, the problem is usually the main line, not one fixture. Gurgling and sewer smells point the same way.

Snaking or hydro-jetting: what is the difference?

A snake (drain cable) punches through a clog and is right for most single-fixture jobs. Hydro-jetting scours the pipe walls with high-pressure water and suits grease buildup and recurring main-line clogs. Jetting is not safe on every old or damaged pipe, so it is usually paired with a camera check.

How long does drain cleaning take?

Most single-fixture clogs clear within an hour or so. Main lines take longer, especially with roots.

Do I need a permit for drain cleaning?

Generally no for clearing a clog. Replacing a broken drain pipe is different: in Baltimore City, for example, replacing a defective drain pipe counts as new work that needs a permit.

What can I try before calling?

A plunger on a sink or toilet and cleaning a tub’s hair trap fix many clogs. Skip chemical drain openers on a fully blocked drain: they sit in the pipe and can harm older plumbing.

FAQ

Drain cleaning FAQ

How much does it cost to unclog a drain?

Other plumbing repairs start at $250.

Why does my drain keep clogging?

Repeat clogs usually mean buildup further down the line, roots, or a sag in the pipe. A camera inspection shows which.

Is hydro-jetting safe for old pipes?

Not always. Cracked or very old pipes should be checked with a camera first.
